An Empirical Study of Future Professionals' Intentions to Engage in Unethical Business Practices.Dwayne Devonish, Philmore A. Alleyne, Cheryl Cadogan-McClean & Dion Greenidge - 2009 - Journal of Academic Ethics 7 (3):159-173.
This paper sought to test whether student demographics (gender, age, religion, type of degree and number of courses done containing ethics) influenced the likelihood of engaging in unethical business practices. The study involved the use of a questionnaire being administered to a sample of 231 undergraduate students in Barbados. It was found that gender, religiousness, type of degree and number of courses taken containing ethics significantly impacted on the intentions to engage in unethical behaviour. It was also found that the (...)

The Moderating Role of Perceived Organisational Support in Breaking the Silence of Public Accountants.Philmore Alleyne, Mohammad Hudaib & Roszaini Haniffa - 2018 - Journal of Business Ethics 147 (3):509-527.
This paper reports the results of a survey with public accountants in Barbados on their intention to report a superior’s unethical behaviour. Specifically, it investigates to what extent perceived organisational support in audit organisations would moderate Barbadian public accountants’ intentions to blow the whistle internally and externally. Results indicate that internal whistle-blowing intentions are significantly influenced by all five individual antecedents, and the influence of the antecedents is intensified when the level of POS is high. However, further results indicate that (...)

Factors Influencing Ethical Intentions Among Future Accounting Professionals in the Caribbean.Philmore Alleyne, Diana Weekes-Marshall, Stacey Estwick & Robertine Chaderton - 2014 - Journal of Academic Ethics 12 (2):129-144.
Ethical decision-making is an important function among accountants. This paper sought to determine the factors influencing the ethical intentions of future accounting professionals. Specifically, this study tested the applicability of the theory of reasoned action , theory of planned behavior and the extended model of the theory of planned behavior in predicting accounting students’ intentions to act unethically . Data was collected via a survey questionnaire from 298 accounting students at a Caribbean university. Results revealed that the independent variables significantly (...)

Predicting Accounting Students’ Intentions to Engage in Software and Music Piracy.Philmore Alleyne, Sherlexis Soleyn & Terry Harris - 2015 - Journal of Academic Ethics 13 (4):291-309.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the salient factors that influence accounting students to engage in software and music piracy. This study uses the theory of reasoned action and the theory of planned behavior, and extends these models to incorporate other variables to predict individuals’ behavioral intentions. Specifically, we hypothesize that attitudes toward the behavior, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, moral obligation and perceived prosecution risk influence intentions to engage in software and music piracy. Data were obtained from (...)

  5. Exploring Academic Dishonesty among University Students in Barbados: An Extension to the Theory of Planned Behaviour. [REVIEW]Philmore Alleyne & Kimone Phillips - 2011 - Journal of Academic Ethics 9 (4):323-338.
This paper applies Beck and Ajzen’s (Journal of Research in Personality 25:285–301, 1991 ) extended version of the theory of planned behaviour model to the decisions of students to engage in academic dishonesty (cheating and lying). The model proposes that students’ intentions to engage in dysfunctional behaviours may be influenced by attitudes, subjective norms, perceived behavioural control and moral obligation. This study was done using a survey questionnaire of 363 undergraduate students at a West Indian University. Based on the extended (...)

The global promotion of gender equality—A propaganda approach.Mark DaCosta Alleyne - 2004 - Human Rights Review 5 (3):103-116.
This paper proposes a new way of measuring progress in international politics, an approach that focuses on the symbolic and ideological work of international organizations. Although such a strategy is not entirely new to the study of International Relations, it has not been a common, accessible way of assessing how well international organizations work to effect change. The more famous methods have been legalistic—investigations of how international organizations have created new international law in the issue-areas under investigation1—and bureaucratic—studies of how (...)

    A Critical Analysis of Alexis Alleyne-Caputo’s Photography.Matt LaVine - 2022 - Sugarcane Magazine.
Alexis Alleyne-Caputo has a vision of what’s possible that we badly need in our white supremacist, patriarchal, capitalistic, colonial world. Brought together by years of lived experience and work as an interdisciplinary artist, anthropologist, educator, and researcher—it’s a vision of resistance, a vision of light, a vision of empowerment, a vision of collective consciousness. Hers is a way of focusing—an awareness—a recognition of possibilities for minds, bodies, and hearts to come together in new and uplifting ways that goes beyond (...)

IntroductionThe purpose of this essay is to work constructively with Michael S. Religious experience and the knowledge of God: the evidential force of divine encounters.Harold Netland - 2022 - Grand Rapids, Michigan: Baker Academic, a division of Baker Publishing Group.
For many Christians, personal experiences of God provide an important ground or justification for accepting the truth of the gospel. But we are sometimes mistaken about our experiences, and followers of other religions also provide impressive testimonies to support their religious beliefs. This book explores from a philosophical and theological perspective the viability of divine encounters as support for belief in God, arguing that some religious experiences can be accepted as genuine experiences of God and can provide evidence for Christian (...)

    Wittgenstein: a very short introduction.A. C. Grayling - 1988 - Oxford: Oxford University Press.
Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889-1951) was an extraordinarily original thinker, whose influence on twentieth-century thinking far outside the bounds of philosophy alone. In this engaging Introduction, A.C. Grayling makes Wittgenstein's thought accessible to the general reader by explaining the nature and impact of Wittgenstein's views. He describes both his early and later philosophy, the differences and connections between them, and gives a fresh assessment of Wittgenstein's continuing influence on contemporary thought.
